HR Consulting Corner

Often times I find myself being a “consultant” to my family and friends related to human resources. Specifically about hiring, interviewing, salary negotiations, resumes, employee relations matters and just plain what not-to-do stories.

What I didn’t write in my about page is that in addition to being a wife and mother by day I am an HR Professional working as a Manager in Human Resources and Talent Management. I hold a Bachelor degree in Psychology (I thought I wanted to be a counselor) instead I worked for some years in HR and earned my Masters degree in Human Resource Management.

I plan to bring relevant, words of wisdom to you about the various topics above.

New Year-New Resume

It’s a new year so dig out that old dusty resume…and update your skills, your accomplishments, and your work experience. There are stages of a resume so a 5 year career shouldn’t be just a list of companies and tasks you completed. Figure out the stage you are in your career and package your resume accordingly.  Your resume should succinctly convey what type of professional you are (sales, healthcare administrator, etc) and what type of work you have completed and are skilled at doing not just the tasks you have completed. More on resume writing to come, but until then get away from the tasks and highlight the accomplishments!!
